All bow down to the mighty Falcon Punch.

FALCON PUNCH

I really feel sorry for Luigi.

Yup, this is it. It’s Captain Falcon’s Special Move, the Falcon Punch. After charging for a second or so, Captain Falcon releases a devastating phoenix punch that can KO at less than 50%. However, being a very hard move to master, it takes some strategy to know how to hit well with it.

PROPERTIES

The only cool factor about Falcon Punch is that it has a reversal effect. After you press B, if you quickly tap the joystick in the direction opposite of what you are facing (for example, if you activate Falcon Punch when you are facing left, you should tap the joystick to the right after you unleash Falcon Punch), Captain Falcon will do a 180 degree pivot and finish the Falcon Punch in the opposite direction.

OPINIONS, COMMENTS, STRATEGIES

There are several easier ways to hit with a Falcon Punch:

-Reversal. For those roll spammers, simply charge a Falcon Punch on the floor when they are in front of you and reverse it. Usually roll spammers tend to try and roll behind and hit you, but you will hit them first with the Falcon Punch. You can also charge this in the air and reverse.

-Edgeguarding against horizontal recoveries. After you understand the distance of Falco’s Falco Phantasm, Fox’s Fox Illusion, Ike’s Quick Draw and all the other horizontal recoveries (this actually includes DK and Bowser’s UpB), you can pull this off pretty well. A lot of the time, the opponent will not grab the ledge but use the recovery to directly land on the platform. Simply position yourself just out of the side recovery’s reach and charge a Falcon Punch. They should recover right into it, since the lag time after the attack is quite long (with the exception of Ike’s, where he can do an A combo right afterwards, and Falco’s, which has little lag afterwards).

-Short hop + Falcon Punch. Some of those smash spammers will just smash over and over. For example, Link might try and Dsmash. Use this opportunity to short hop and dodge the Dsmash while charging the Falcon Punch. The Falcon Punch should release near the ground, and the poor Link that did the Dsmash probably has too much lag to do anything.

Oh, and Kirby can Falcon Punch too.

Snake is a big fan, but I can actually do it!

Happy Brawling!
