Shoddy Battle Server

in Gaming, Misc. Servers

Yesterday I was in a giant Skype group chat with a ton of noodlescape forum members. A few of them were just hanging around having nothing to do as the “Shoddy Battle” main server was down and they couldn’t battle each other. While listening I remembered that I also used to play Shoddy Battle and I actually set up a Shoddy Battle server before on my local network. I informed the group chat that I had done so and they started to (somewhat) beg me to setup a server. I quickly downloaded the source for the server and set it up. After spending another few minutes setting up a MySQL database for it and tweaking it to work I forwarded the ports (I put it on port 1337! haha) and gave the IP address and port to the group chat. Then there was the moment of relief, the server worked. After they all registered on the server I had some data in the database to play with. I made one of the noodlescape forum moderators a moderator on the battle server. We named the Shoddy Battle server the “Noodlescape Battle Server” for “Noodlescape’s Battlers”. The setting up of the server was smooth. Members reported that they experienced great deals of lag followed by almost instantaneous gaming and then lag again. We found a few problems though. Ultimateaether at the noodlescape forum found that “Pokemon Platinum” changes weren’t in the server. I found that when using a MySQL database member records (win-loss) weren’t saved. The server didn’t run as well as it would have run if I was running it on a Linux system. I could tell that it wasn’t made fro running on Mac.
