Review:
Graphics: KoL is more a text based game as there aren’t many images. The only place’s where you will find images are on profiles, items, maps, and monsters. Other than those you won’t find many images. Amazingly enough KoL’s gameplay and storyline are not hindered much at all by the lack of graphics. Oh and all (or most) of the images are non animated and black and white which reduces lag and loading time.
Gameplay: Gameplay is fairly simply and strait forward but doesn’t get boring either. All though at times it can by slightly repetitive. There are several quests to complete, several areas to discover, several items to find and create, etc. Even after you beat all the quests handed out by the CoL (Council of Loathing) there are still several optional quests. Not only that but once you defeat the game you may “ascend” (aka start all over) and start the same old story line but with more items to get, areas to explore, etc.
Storyline: The story itself is quite good but it doesn’t really come much during gameplay and is not essential (you can get to lvl 50 without doing any quests at all), though there are areas that are unlocked during and after quests.
Community: In the Mall of Loathing there are always shops selling pretty much anything you can sell. There are clans and multiplayer maps and dungeons (Hobopolis). There are forums, fan sites, wikis, etc. that cover pretty much most of discovered KoL.
Overall: KoL is a great game. Play it. Seriously.
And with that I leave you. An adventurer is you!
